The snuggies were for the first time commercialized as the Freedom blanket. Selling under the brand name slanket, it was created and designed by Gary Clegg and it helped in creating his personal trial product by Ryan Lafayette in 1998 by the use of sleeping bag in Maine before the inception of snuggie.

The Mother of Gary Clegg had made a blanket for her son using a single sleeve in order to protect the son from cold weather at the dorm room. The son (Clegg) developed slanket with two sleeves. Over 20 millions sleeved snuggies have been sold in the US, Australia and Canada.

The snuggie is sold under many brand news in the store; do not be confused by the various names because they refer to one product.

The Popularity of the snuggies

The snuggies became very popular between 2008 and 2009 among the pop culture celebrities. They were so popular and common that some people ended up referring to them as a cult; they are associated with the behaviors, living styles and cultures of the pop. During this time, the product was also advertised in TVs and over the internet.

At its inception, a single snuggie cost $14.95. Two snuggie sets at the moment cost $19.95 in most stores. The snuggie product has since then featured in most reality and TV talk shows in the United States.

Because of the increasing demand, the snuggies have been customized to suit the various needs and interests of most people.

The snuggies are also known as the Slanket, Doojo, Wrap, Snuggler or the Toasty. All these names refer to the body-length blanket which contains sleeves which are in most cases made of Velux or fleece material.

It looks like a bathrobe worn backwards. It is designed to be worn in such a way that the opening is at the back. The snuggies are available in various qualities of materials, colors and sizes but the basic design remains the same.

The snuggies are very popular among the pop culture. They are currently also popular among the comedians and by TV drama actors.
